Peacocks, Feathers and evolving ideas...
The peacock feather is a thing of beauty, the repeated shape and the beautiful deep blues and turquoise really are rather stunning. It was actually a stylised picture of the show of feathers that inspired these pieces.
I just loved the shape and I started to create my interpretation by chasing sterling silver in a bowl of pitch using traditional techniques This allowed me to create the shape with some depth but by hollowing it out it's wonderfully light. Once I had a form that I felt captured the shape of the feather a good tool maker friend made me a die and punch to my design. This has enabled me to make repeated pieces.
Adding the bright london blue topaz gemstone is indicative of the colour pop in the feather and including that in the piece I hope to make it impactful, contemporary but still delicate.
Its a lovely thought that these pieces will find new homes and be worn proudly.... maybe as a peacock!
